We need help again. We need someone to act as our  go-to media person. I’d love to have someone who has been involved with PTCSC for a while and knows our background. Somebody good in communications. We especially need someone to respond to negative and mis-informed press, like this one:

Please contact me asap if this sounds good to you.

Yes! The bill sailed through the Judiciary Subcommittee today with NO objection. It will go onto the Full Committee next- we expect in 2 weeks.

Thanks to everyone who attended that meeting- especially David at Blueridge. We hope to have the brochure wrapped up soon and it is looking awesome!

Here are the 4 members ordered to hear the bill on Wednesday (28th). Any last minute calls or emails, nows the time.

(We know Bannister is for it at this point)

Hon. Scott Talley, Chairman              E-Mail Address:

Hon. Bruce Bannister, Vice Chairman    E-Mail Address:

Hon. Kris Crawford                              E-Mail Address:

So, HB 3624 is up to the Judiciary Subcommittee on March 28. I know you all have been busy writing letters but in case you haven’t gotten around to it…..I thought I would post a quick list of all Judiciary members that have not signed on to co-sponsor:

McLeod, Ceips, Allen, Clemmons, Coleman, Delleney, Hagood, Haskins, Kelly, Rutherford, Stewart, Talley, Viers, Weeks, Whipper, Smith, Smith and Smith

So go ahead and knock out a quick letter to these Reps. before next week and let ’em know you support this bill!

We need help. We need someone to help design an educational brochure. Anyone with experience in that area and wiling to  help please contact me! I’m sure we could work out some free beer for ya- depending on where your located. We also need it asap, no problem right?

Thanks to Bobby for tackling this! Hopefully we’ll have it done for posting and printing early next week.

We’ve been thinking about how to deal with media coverage with this bill in action. Honestly, I didn’t know if taking the “under the radar” approach like we did last year would be the best approach this year. Well after spekaing with the lobbyist, the president of Total Wine and a few Reps. we all agree: definitely. Stay under the radar, out of full mainstream media; at least for now. The subcommittee is scheduled to hear the bill March 28 and then we’ll see how things stand. The lobbyist stated that the mainstream media could garner opposition to the bill. That does make things harder for us though, I think. That means more leg work on our part since some Reps. and Senators will not have heard of this until it is front of them. That is where some educational literature will come in handy. We have to step up our efforts of contacting our politicinas and voicing our support! The business list will be updated and sent with the literature to all Reps. but the businesses themselves also need to send letters on their letterhead; this will really help. One more thing the lobbyist said:

“Also, Rep. Herbkersman told me today that he was aware of and pleased with response from emails being sent to House members.  Please continue this type of contact”

We are making a difference! Keep it up!

I want to gather a list of businesses who support HB 3624. Please let me know of any I missed or any that are in error.  I am only listing the ones I have spoken with directly with (or someone from PTCSC has), there are many businesses that I can assume support this

Below is a sample letter to help you get started writing our representatives:

(your address)

Dear Representative (last name),                                             (Introduce yourself as a constituent, mention the town you live in, and tell them that you would like them to support specialty beer in South Carolina) (Ask them to support House Bill 3624 and tell them briefly what it’s all about) (Provide a talking point or two from the list as to why the bill should be approved) (Tell them how this law personally effects you, or tell a story about the most you’ve ever spent on a single bottle of beer…something to personalize the letter and make it sound like YOU wrote it)

(Close by once again asking them to support HB3624.  Give them a final takeaway.)  (Recommend that they visit for more info and for a list of the many businesses supporting HB3624). (Thank them for their time and service)

Representatives Miller, Battle and Perry have been added as co-sponsors!
